Those of us who cannot attend Jazz Fest in New Orleans in person have the option to stream select performances via RollingStones website. The schedule of performances has not been released yet but the website hints at live streaming of the Wilco, Arcade Fire, and Galactic shows.

So I was listening to some Wilco last night and I came across the song "You Never Know" from their self-titled album, and I was eerily entranced. Probably because it sounds like it should have come straight off of one of my favorite albums of all time, George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass." Take a listen

Book Review

I recently finished reading Victor Wooten's "The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music" and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who plays or simply enjoys music.

The book follows the story of Victor (of Flecktones fame) as he learns about music and life from a mysterious man simply named Michael. While Wooten does not write in the most eloquent of prose, his message comes across loud and clear: there is much more to music than just the notes.

The Melody of Rhythm

Ok, so what do you get when Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and percussionist Zakir Hussain compose a triple concerto and music for a trio? The answer lies below!!!!!! Just picked up this recording from the library and have been blown away after listening once. By the time you read this post I have probably listened several more times. As always, enjoy!

The first song, "Mother and Child Reunion" is a musical masterpiece straight out of the typical Simon vein. Cannot recommend this album enough.

MOOG Lover Must Movie

Moog. The story of Dr. Robert Moog and the invention of the Synthesizer. Just watched this film on netflix and highly recommend it. It is a combination of interviews with Dr. Moog as well as performances by well known electronic and Moog musicians including but not limited to: Bernie Worrell, Keith Emerson, and Sun Ra. If you don't have netflix or if you have no idea what a Moog synthesizer is then go on youtube and look it up, you will thank me and it will change your life!

Apparently 13,000,000 + people have already seen this youtube video but I got there eventually so if you have not watched this yet check it out.

I used to watch this guy on you tube a whole lot in college. His name is Ronald Jenkees and he just has an incredible talent for building beats and shredding on the keys. Incredibly strange dude, used to think it was an act but not sure why it would be. Here is a taste, but I am sure you will find yourself looking for more of his videos later!
